Biography
Leo Berekayi was born in Chitungwiza in 1976. He began sculpting as a boy, inspired by his mother, the sculptor Rachel Ndandarika. In 1996, he came to Chapungu to help her, and in 2000, he was invited to participate in the Chapungu Sculpture Park Residency Program.
In his sculptures, he depicts everyday life in Zimbabwe, such as women gathering firewood or a pensive figure resting his chin on his hand. He prefers to work with black springstone, but he also experiments with very hard stones such as agate and rose quartz.
